Obituary for Billy Michael Wesson

Billy Michael Wesson, 74, of Athens, Texas, passed away January 12, 2022 in Athens.

Billy was born June 27, 1947 in Cleburne, Texas to the late Doe Wesson and Johnnye Faye (Lowe) Wesson-Vassar. Billy moved with his family to Bowie, Texas at an early age and he graduated from Bowie High School and the University of Oklahoma. He was a disabled veteran serving in both the Army and Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Postal Service with 31 years of service. Billy was a Postal Executive at the Headquarters operation in Washington, DC. After retirement Billy wanted to move to Texas and raise longhorn cattle. He and his wife Regina moved to Athens and began their next phase of life- raising longhorns which they both loved working. Billy was a great husband, father, and grandfather who was a very generous man and would help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Hubert Elton Vassar and sister, Sonja Grimsley.

Survivors include his wife Regina Wesson of Athens; son, Bradford Wesson and wife Courtney of Dallas; daughter, Tracy Isham of Grand Prairie; two grandchildren, Olivia Garcia and husband Kendall of Dallas, Adam Isham of Grand Prairie and brother, Hubert “J.R.” Vassar of Haltom City.

A private service will be held for immediate family at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Family.
