Obituary for Billie Jean Rogers (Yates)

Funeral Services for Billie Rogers, 77, of Athens are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Thom Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Willow Springs Cemetery in Athens.

B.J. passed away on January 10, 2021 in Tyler.

Billie Jean (Yates) Rogers was born September 16, 1943 in Dallas, Texas the daughter of J.W. Yates and Betty Jean (White) Yates. She attended New Beginnings Worship Center in Cayuga, Texas. She was a homemaker in every sense of the word who always took care of her family. She enjoyed horse races, playing bingo and gambling, especially poker, moon tournaments and dominoes. B.J. enjoyed life and loved being around people. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother who will be missed by all she knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wayne Norman; brother, Don Yates; sister, Anita Yates Williams and grandson Joseph Norman.

B.J. is survived by her children, Donny Norman and wife Tina of Wills Point, Cheryl Norman of Trinidad, Chris Rogers and wife Jamie of Malakoff; five siblings, Jack Yates and wife Tienna of Murfreesboro, Arkansas, Tim Arp and Carolyn Isler of Dallas, Mike Arp and Pam Williams of Garland, Vickie Green of Kemp, Deborah Wheeler and husband Jack of Ruidoso, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Karen Yates of Minden, Louisiana; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Meador, Justin Norman, Jared Norman, Jeremy Miller, Corey Brookins, Jessica Essex, Ashley Miller, Ryder Rogers, Fynlee Rogers and nine great grandchildren.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Ross Miller, Donny Piper, Jerry Spiva, Scooter Covert, Jason Gardner and Jared Norman. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Norman, Bobby Meador, David Miller and O.D. Miller.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 12-2:00 P.M.
