Obituary

A celebration of the life of Billie Gullick, 84, of Athens, is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Friday from 10-11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Billie Ruth (Knott) Gullick, precious mother and friend, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved family on October 14, 2019.

Billie Ruth Knott was born September 17, 1935, in Palestine, Texas, the daughter of Joseph Sidney and Johnnie Alice Knott. She was the second oldest of their six children. She graduated from Athens High School in 1955 and attended Henderson County Junior College.

Billie was married to Charles (Chuck) Gullick for 49 years. They resided and raised their family in Athens and they both retired from Sprint. They enjoyed hosting family and friends at fish-fry gatherings, spending time on the area lakes and traveling. During their retirement years, they moved to Lindale, Texas, where they attended Prairie Creek Fellowship Church. The couple returned to Athens in 2013 to be near family. Billie’s happiest times were spent with her family at celebrations, on vacations and at family reunions. She loved and was loved by friends and her family members and will always be remembered as one who brought comfort and joy to the hearts of many throughout her lifetime. She was a great friend and loving Mother!

Billie was preceded in passing and greeted in heaven by husband, Charles Gullick; parents, J.S. “Smiley” and Johnnie Knott; sisters, MaryLou Hollabaugh and Joyce Ellis; brothers, Johnny Knott and Henry Ray; step-daughter, Lori Gullick and two nephews, Bobby Knott, Jr. and Adam Knott.

Billie Gullick is cherished and survived by her three daughters, Kevyn Pate and husband James Pate of Athens, Lesa Owens and husband Tony Owens of Athens and Hope Rehkop and husband Byron Rehkop of Troup; her brother, Bobby Joe Knott and wife Virginia of Athens; and her sister, JoAnn Carlisle of Dallas. She was also blessed with five grandchildren, Wesley Rehkop, Hayley Sutton, Weston Owens, Sydney Lindamood and Kyle Lindamood; and two great-grandchildren, Allie Schultheis and Lacey Mehr. Billie is also survived by three step-children, Patricia Kobashigawa, Dyann Cottam, Danny Gullick and their families. Additionally, she has numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
