Obituary for Betsy Smith (Whitney)
A memorial service for Betsy Smith, 92, of Athens, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, 405 E Corsicana St., Athens, TX 75751. The family invites everyone to attend.
Mrs. Smith passed away December 29, 2020 in Athens.
Elizabeth “Betsy” Lee Smith was born February 14, 1928 in Chandler, Oklahoma, the daughter of Andrew Carroll Whitney and Lucille (Hall) Whitney. She graduated with her bachelor’s from the University of Oklahoma and with her master’s from Southern Methodist University. Betsy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens and enjoyed playing the piano, playing bridge, reading, knitting and going to garage sales.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forrest E. Smith and daughter, Lissa Smith.
Survivors include children, Robert Scott Smith of Athens, Forrest Whitney Smith and wife Karen of Coppell, Samantha Susan Smith of Athens, Stephanie Smith Webb and husband Andy of Coppell; grandchildren, Dinah Wright and husband Ethan, Chandler Boyd and husband Luke, Christen Webb, Casey Webb, Jonathan Webb and one great grandchild on the way.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
A private graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bible Study Fellowship, 19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258-4019.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
