Obituary for Aydan "AJ" Jefferson

Services for Aydan “AJ” Jefferson, 16, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Living For The Brand Cowboy Church in Athens under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow at North Athens Cemetery.

AJ passed away on October 30, 2022, in Athens, Texas.

Aydan Scott Jefferson was born November 4, 2005 in Athens, Texas the son of the late Rodney Heath Jefferson and Melissa Kay (Hurd) Castaneda. He enjoyed playing on his PS 5, watching social media/the internet and hanging out with his friends and family. He was a junior at Athens High School and was a vibrant young man who was loved by so many.

He is preceded in death by his father Rodney Jefferson; maternal grandparents, James and Claudia Hurd; paternal grandfather WM Penn Jefferson; paternal grandmother Jeana Barker and step grandmother Vicenta Castaneda.

Survivors include his loving mother, Melissa Hurd Castaneda and husband Javier of Athens; siblings, David Hurd (Daisha) of Athens, Ryan Jefferson (Aubrianne) of Athens, Elecia Jefferson of Grand Prairie, TyIsha Wise (Derek) of Mansfield, Alondra Garcia (Omar) Athens, Lucero Castaneda of Athens, Javier Castaneda Jr., of Athens, Ruby Castaneda (Carlos) of Athens, Jocelyn Castaneda of Athens, Brando Castaneda of Athens, Kayla Castaneda of Athens; favorite uncle Randy Hurd of Athens; special auntie Lisa Cofer of Palestine; step grandfather Jose Castaneda; special grandmother Berto Clark; nieces, Baylee Hurd, Kehlani Jefferson, Jayla Wise, Faith Wise, Luna Juarez, Marisol Juarez and nephews Derek Wise III, Ian Resendiz and Andres Garcia.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kaleb Russell, Krish Patel, Ty Kiser, Abel Alvarez, Vico Casillas, DeAngelo Russell, Brett Horn, Trey White and Bishop Kiser. Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of 2024, Bishop Kiser and Michael Allen.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 4, 2022, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
