Obituary for August Joe Becker
Memorial services for August Becker, 94, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Athens with Pastor Seth Davidson officiating.
Mr. Becker passed away January 18, 2021 in Athens.
August Joe Becker, III was born October 12, 1926 in Southland, Texas, the son of August Joe Becker, Jr. and Adele Wilhemine (Eckerman) Becker. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and spent a lifetime farming cotton and corn in both the South Plains of Texas and Southeast Arizona. August enjoyed fishing and reading, especially about Pacific War history.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Syble Louise Becker; granddaughter, Stephanie Odom; son-in-law, Bruce Odom and numerous siblings.
Survivors include children, Linda Becker Wisdom and husband Larry of Tyler, Karla Odom of Athens, Luanne Watson and husband Mike of Yuma, Arizona, Roger Becker and wife Suzanne of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren, Leslie McWhirter and husband David, Lindsey Marshall and husband Jason, Hilary Odom, Matthew Watson, Benjamin Watson and wife Marlee, Ryan Becker, Seth Becker; and great grandchildren, Cammbria Marshall, A.J. Marshall, Sam McWhirter and Sullivan McWhirter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church, 451 Lila Lane, Athens, Texas 75751.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
