Obituary for Anthony Thomas
Graveside services for Tony Thomas, 78, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021 at Allen Cemetery with Bro. Donald Thomas officiating and held under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas passed away November 14, 2021 in Athens.
Anthony Thomas was born May 8, 1943 in Athens, the son of Davis Burton Thomas and DeAlva (Maness) Thomas. He was a member of the New York Baptist Church and loved talking to people. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tony was a hard worker who spent his life ranching and doing custom farm work, mending fences, putting up hay and taking care of his cattle. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Anne Thomas.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Ann Thomas of Athens; two children, Donald Wayne Thomas and wife Debbie of Athens, Cindy Shelton and husband Lee of Tool; siblings, Larry Thomas and wife Mary Ann of Athens, Lynda Lewis of Richardson; sister-in-law Wanda Bigelow; grandchildren, Bruce Thomas and wife Cortney, Jacob Thomas and wife Tonya, Laura Harris and husband Justin, Justin Shelton and Emelia Duarte; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Justin Shelton, Justin Harris, Conner Thomas, Eli Thomas, Ricky Hambrick and Albert Aldridge. Mark Williams will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
