Obituary for Ronnie Eugene Day

Funeral Services for Ronnie Day, 69, of Athens are scheduled for 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens, Texas with Bro. Charles Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.
Mr. Day passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015 in Athens, Texas.
Ronnie Eugene Day was born December 9, 1945 in Athens, Texas the son of Raymond Eugene Day and Mary Odessa Gunnels Day. He joined the United States Air Force in 1969. He was a member of the North American Regional Air Defense Band, travelled all over the U.S. playing for dignitaries including President Richard Nixon and played TAPS for the Military for over 100 fallen Veterans. After his time in the military he began his teaching career, starting the band program in LaPoynor, serving as the band director and teaching computers for over 36 years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Athens and travelled with the youth to many summer camps. He was a Charter member of the Athens HAMM Radio Club. Music was his life, playing bass in a Christian music band called Damascus Road and attending every Gaither Concert he could make. He also loved photography and later had his own business taking wedding photographs and working on school annuals and slide shows. Ronnie was an avid Rangers baseball fan and was a loving brother, uncle, great uncle and cousin and will be greatly missed by all those he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step father Reagan Dingler.
He is survived by his sister Retha Inmon of Athens; brother Jim Day and wife Teresa of Athens; niece Nicole and husband Jeff Gurley of Athens; nephew Jonathan Day of Athens; great nieces and nephew, Jayden and Emma Day, Madison and Elizabeth Gurley and a host of family and friends.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Jonathan Day, Jayden Day, Jeff Day, Steve Chapman, Gary Gunnels, and Hozea Chambers.
Visitation will be held from 4-5:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
